Biography

BUTCH ADAMS

Square Dance Caller

Butch started dancing and calling in 1960 while he was on active duty in the U.S. Navy.  He has called throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and the Western Pacific.

He was assigned to Virginia in the mid-sixties where he met Decko Deck who was, and continues to be, his mentor and great friend.  He joined NCASDLA (Washington Caller’s group) in 1965 and, after a couple years of Virginia hospitality, he decided to make it his permanent home.  Upon retirement from the Navy in 1978, he moved to the Shenandoah Valley.  He presently calls in the mid-Atlantic area and has his home program in Northern Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley.  Butch calls for corporate events, private parties, and various clubs at the mainstream through advanced levels, and specializes in Plus-DBD dancing.  He also conducts regular monthly scheduled programs at senior adult day-care centers and assisted living centers in Frederick, Fairfax and Arlington counties.

Butch is the choreographer and caller for two exhibition groups; the national capitol area exhibition team known as the “Capitol Squares Exhibition Team of Washington DC”, who perform at various festivals, special dances, national events, etc. and the “Shenandoah Valley Squares Exhibition Team” who perform within the Shenandoah Valley area.

Butch conducts classes and seminars in choreography, digital music applications, senior dancing (both chair and wheelchair) and youth programs for both public and home schools.
